Egypt is taking another strong step toward a greener and more sustainable future. On December 9, 2025, leaders from Egypt and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) met to talk about how they can work even more closely together.
Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, spoke positively about the long-standing partnership with UNDP. She shared that Egypt and UNDP are already working together on 45 projects. These projects focus on important areas like climate action, clean energy, business growth, women’s empowerment, and supporting vulnerable communities.
During her meeting with Chitose Noguchi, the UNDP’s Resident Representative in Egypt, they discussed plans for the future. Al-Mashat explained how their partnership has grown over the years and how it supports Egypt’s national development goals. The current cooperation plan, running from 2023 to 2027, aims to promote development that benefits both people and the environment.
Noguchi also reaffirmed UNDP’s strong support for Egypt. She said UNDP will continue helping Egypt improve development financing. This includes creative solutions such as debt-swap programs for green projects and using mixed funding to speed up progress. UNDP is also working closely with Egypt on the country’s upcoming Human Development Report, which tracks improvements in people’s quality of life.
The discussion also covered how Egypt is adapting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to fit local needs. In 2025, new reports were released to help regions grow economically while staying environmentally responsible. Looking ahead, both sides are preparing for Egypt’s 2026 Voluntary National Review, expanding clean energy efforts, and improving systems to track progress.
Another key topic was the Integrated National Financing Framework, which helps guide investments into sustainable development. They also talked about South-South cooperation, where countries like Egypt share experiences and solutions with other developing nations.
Overall, the meeting showed Egypt’s clear commitment to sustainability. By working closely with UNDP, Egypt is turning plans into action, creating jobs, protecting the environment, and improving everyday life for its people. In a world facing climate and development challenges, this partnership shows how working together can lead to real change.
