In a burst of color and courage, a group of young dreamers from North Devon has turned their worries about our warming world into a dazzling display of hope. Picture this, sketches born from salty sea breezes, funky pieces made from tossed-out treasures, and snapshots that capture nature’s wild beauty. That’s the magic unfolding right now at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, where the fresh exhibit “Earth Action North Devon: Explorers Create!” just swung open its doors.
These pint-sized powerhouses, all part of the local group’s Ocean Explorer learning adventure, didn’t just doodle in a classroom. Nope, they hit the road (and the sand!) to soak up real-world vibes. Think frothy waves at Croyde beach, hidden gems at Lee Bay, and leafy secrets in Chapel Wood. Armed with pencils, cameras, and a whole lot of grit, they whipped up art that screams, “We can fix this!”
“It’s a real thrill to spotlight the fresh thinking and fixes from kids right here in our backyard, all fired up to fight climate chaos,” gushed Alison Mills, the museum’s top boss. She added with a spark, “I bet folks walking through will leave buzzing with ideas of their own.”
Backed by the hometown heroes at Earth Action North Devon, this show isn’t your dusty old gallery snooze. It’s a wake-up call wrapped in creativity, urging everyone, from families on weekend jaunts to green thumbs plotting their next move, to join the fight. With animal habitats shrinking and oceans heating up, these young voices remind us, small hands can spark massive waves of change.
Catch the action while it’s hot, the exhibit sticks around until Saturday, November 22. Swing by, snap some inspo, and who knows? You might just leave ready to recycle your way to a cooler planet. Devon kids are leading the charge, will you grab the baton?
