For years, Guwahati has faced issues like stray dog bites, monkey trouble and animal neglect. Project Sahajeevan aims to fix this through a humane, science-based approach that links human well-being, animal health, and a clean environment. GMC Commissioner M. S. Lakshmi Priya describes it as a major step toward a sustainable, compassionate city. The mission focuses on reducing conflicts, caring for street animals responsibly, and encouraging every citizen to take part in protecting urban wildlife.

Key Highlights of Project Sahajeevan

1. Citizen Science Initiative: Residents can click and upload geo-tagged photos of dogs, monkeys, birds, or plants to help map animal activity and guide better management.
2. 24/7 Helpline: Quick response teams will handle stray issues or bite cases with care and efficiency.
3. Pet Registration Drive: Pet owners can register their animals free on the Sewa Setu Portal, ensuring proper vaccination, health checks, and accountability.
4. Eco-Friendly Crematorium: The city now has its first electric pet crematorium, promoting an environmentally safe way to bid farewell to pets.
5. Vaccination and Awareness Camps: Starting from October 30 at Kalibari, Paltan Bazar, the campaign will run across all city wards with free vaccinations and education drives.

With fewer bite cases, safer streets, and a better understanding of animal behavior, Guwahati’s neighborhoods are becoming more secure and compassionate.
